Scape Student Accommodation

Project: Scape Student Accommodation
Value of job: $90 million
AMA contract: $400k
Contractor: Hindmarsh Builders
Scope of works: to supply and install, StructGlass, glass balustrades, handrails and privacy screens

High-rise student accommodation demands an uncompromising approach to safety. The visual appeal and design quality of glass balconies and balustrades is also important - especially when the building is part of Brisbane City Council’s aspiration to become an international student education hub.

The new 18-storey Scape Tower, in Toowong, overlooks the Brisbane River and boasts a spectacular rooftop recreation deck with outdoor kitchen, barbecues and synthetic grassed areas.

The project is a continuation of the close collaboration between building company, Hindmarsh and public- sector development specialist, Scape. AMA was appointed to the team of trusted contractors, to deliver a building that would complement one of Brisbane’s most iconic riverside strips - Coronation Drive.
Scape is renowned for its ‘brilliant buildings’, and their signature developments are found across Australia, UK and Ireland.
The Toowong tower is equipped
to encompass all the facilities that hard-working students need, within practical modern designs. Hindmarsh is one of Australia’s leading family-owned property and construction specialists, focusing
on complex construction and development. Since they were founded in 1979, Hindmarsh has built more than 5,000 residential and 240 retirement living units.

The Scape tower is designed to accommodate more than 700 students at a time. It has a large shared kitchen and multiple communal areas for residents to live, work and collaborate. There is a gym, a cinema and private study areas.

Nick Blacket, Project Manager at Hindmarsh Builders, complimented the AMA team for their professionalism and friendly approach.

‘I built up a good relationship with Dave at AMA and he was great. Dave and his team were really helpful throughout the whole project.’

Supplying and installing StructGlass, Glass Balustrades, Handrails and Privacy Screens on such an extensive project, was bound to require variations throughout the build.

However, Nick was happy to report that there were no major issues. ‘AMA were always helpful on pricing and changes, so there were no problems.’

Scape Student Accommodation, Toowong, is now open and a hive of activity with students enjoying the facilities and central location. Nick Blacket says he is really happy with the quality workmanship from AMA.
